WHO IS J3 LOTIONS? Let Me Introduce Myself

Writer's picture: Angela JaynesAngela Jaynes

Me in a nutshell

My name is Angela Jaynes. I was born in New Mexico and raised in the small "village" of Logan, New Mexico. I have two amazing parents - Lina and Juan, a heavenly brother - Juano, a sister, and two beautiful nieces - Alex and Shania.

Lina, Alex, Shania, Juan

I am married to my husband Mark and together we have a wonderful son, Myles - together we make J3. Well, that's me in a nutshell, thank you for stopping by. hahaha only joking. Mark and Myles would look at me and tell me, "That wasn't funny!"

1996

A month and nineteen days after I graduated high school and three days after I turned 18, I left for Navy boot camp in Great Lakes, IL. This was the first time I had ever flown anywhere and only the second time I had traveled this far without my family. Just as I was leaving the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) in Amarillo, TX, a kind young man told me that my plane was going to crash. It's ironic because my "best friends" dedicated the Alanis Morissette song, Ironic, to me before I left specifically for this line in the song,

'Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly

He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye

He waited his whole damn life to take that flight

And as the plane crashed down he thought

"Well isn't this nice..."'

Needless to say, I was a little scared to fly. I only spent three years in the Navy. I was stationed in Japan for a little while

before I decided it was time for me to get out. I had no plan, just get out, visit my uncle and his family in Alaska, and then go back home to Logan, NM. I purchased a one-way ticket to Alaska and headed north on a two-week "vacation"...in June. Have y'all ever been to Alaska in June??? Let me tell you, it was absolutely gorgeous. I fell in love. I joined the Navy Reserves and extended my two week vacation so I could celebrate my 21st birthday with my cousins, then I extended it again to celebrate the 4th of July, and again to celebrate my cousins birthday...you get where I'm going with this? I spent 10.5 years there. I ended up back on Active Duty as the Navy Reserve Recruiter for the state of AK, and this is where I met Mark.

Enter Mark & Myles

When I first saw him, wow!!! He has the most beautiful green eyes, I fell in love again. He was in the Air Force and worked at the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), Anchorage. When my co-worker introduced us [in the most embarrassing way for me], I found out he was also from New Mexico. He had no clue where Logan was, which is not surprising, I wished I didn't know where it was either. LOL! We hit it off and ended up getting married a few years later. A few years after that, we had Myles, he was our "rainbow" baby. When he was 18 months old, we made the trek out of Alaska and headed to Arizona. From one extreme to another. He got stationed at Luke Air Force Base and I was assigned to the Navy Recruiting District in Phoenix where I held multiple jobs.

Careers

2011 was a heck of a year for us - long story but we survived it all...Thank God. Is he deploying? Yes...No...Maybe so... it was only by the grace of God he didn't, but it was a battle. In that same year, I was promoted to Chief Petty Officer and in November, on his 40th birthday, Mark retired after serving 21 faithful and honorable years. We are so proud of him. In 2012, the Navy transferred us to Houston, TX where I was assigned to be a medical officer recruiter. In 2016, I considered staying in. My commanding officer offered me a position that would keep us there long term. I loved my job and the people I worked with so I almost said yes. The day came when Myles asked me, "Mom, when are you going to be a stay-at-home mom like dad is a stay-at-home dad?" Those eyes!!! That look he gave me!!! How could I do anything else but submit my paperwork to retire? It was THE BEST decision for my family and I. Just like that, after serving 21 years in the Navy, I retired in 2017.

Retirement

Grand Canyon Universtiy

We decided we would move back to AZ to be close to family. So, here we are, living the dream of being retired, teaching, and raising our son. Mark is a phlebotomy instructor, Myles just wrapped up his freshman year in high school, I have been a substitute teacher for the past four years and recently graduated with my Masters of Elementary Education degree from Grand Canyon University, and now, I'm focusing on J3 Lotions, LLC.

J3 Lotions - My Why

J3 Lotions was born when Myles developed a skin condition at the age of two along with his severe peanut allergy. I didn't want him on anything that wasn't natural and organic. So I took to researching various oils and oil blends and how to create my own product to help him. I used various recipes I found online and just ran with it. It wasn't until we were stationed in Houston that I started gifting the products I made to his teachers and then to my friends at work. One day one of my dearest friends, Yolanda, asked me why I wasn't selling them. Well, DUH, I was still on active duty and time was scarce. Another friend was hurt I'd never gifted him a gift basket for his birthday...Sorry Mr. Phil. We sat down crunched some numbers, figured out what I could do and there I started.

My Second Why

In 2016 my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. She'd been holding onto this dirty little secret for a year before I found out. She too had been wanting to do things naturally until I came home and the girls asked me if I was home to take mom to the doctor. Mom had a cancer cell protruding from her chest. I had just started researching and using essential oils but knew that she needed more than just that. She HAD to go to the doctor. A few months had gone by before she would actually go to the doctor and they told her what we already suspected. They moved fast, got her in, removed the breast, lymph nodes, cancer cells, and started chemo. She has been cancer free since ending her treatment. I am eternally grateful for her friends and our family who supported her during this time. This began my journey to create a chemical free home, a natural way of life.

I conduct a lot of my own research on various products; ingredients to include herbs, oils, essential oils, skin types and recommend you do the same. I am not a doctor, I am not an expert on anything except how to love others the best I can and care for my family the best way I know how, I don't have FDA approval for any of my products, I'm not a lawyer. I AM a loving mama, a gracious wife, a caring friend, a humble veteran, I am me. I have been creating body butters, heel creams, sugar scrubs, soaps, household cleaners, shampoos, hair sprays, eye serums, aromatherapy pillows, and gift baskets for the past 13 years (as of 2023). I love cooking and hosting family dinners and lunch with friends. I love the outdoors and find peace by the ocean - crazy, because I cannot swim (story for another day). I create products in hopes that one day someone will say to me, "Your product helped me because..." You can find me participating in a couple of different vendor events, substitute teaching within the Higley Unified School District, and enjoying my family on a regular basis.

Thank you for taking the time out to get to know ME.

Please reach out if you have any questions or just to say HELLO!
